Nested blocks change transformation when blocks edited

I am experiencing an issue whe editing blocks in rhino for mac.

I have a model with nested blocks, each time i edit the parent block, the nested blocks transform to a new location/orientation. My friends are also experiencing this issue. I have added a small test model:
Untitled.3dm (3.2 MB)

Hi Tim-

Thanks for reporting this an providing the sample file. I am able to reproduce the behavior you are describing. I’ve logged this bug (MR-2868) and we will look into it. Please take a look at the logged issue to make sure I’m describing the bug correctly.

I should also say: if you know of a way to reproduce this behavior in a new, fresh, 3dm file and can provide steps, that would also help us. If not, the file you provided is a great start.

Best,
-Dan

Hi Dan,

thanks you for logging the issue. I didn’t succeed reproducing the issue from scratch so far. I did update to version 5.2.2 recently, possibly the file was originally created with the previous release. Could this be of influence on the file itself?

best regards,

Tim

It certainly could, so thank you for providing it. We’ll look into it. I just thought I would ask if you could provide steps (often this is not easy to do).

Thanks again,

I am experiencing the same problem with nested blocks as well. I tried different things to reproduce the problem but seemed kind of random when it happened. I think now I found when the problem happens.

If I have a block which I nest into another block everything is OK. However, when I rotate or mirror the blocks and place multiple of those in another block, the rotated/mirrored ones jump all over the place while the original one(s) (which was not rotated/mirrored) stays where it should be. This happens when editing the parent block as Tim described.

Can this help you?

.Jeroen

Hi @dan,

do you have any idea when the issue will be adressed?

best regards,

Hi Tim!

We would like to get this bug (MR-2868) addressed sometime during the 5.4 release cycle. Unfortunately, I cannot be more precise than that. @JohnM may have a better timeline as this item is on his list. The only thing I can say right now is that it’s in the “next up” pile, but - until we dig into it further - it’s not at all certain when it will be fixed.

Sorry for the delay,
-Dan

https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/MR-2868 Has been fixed in 5.4.

This bug should be fixed in the latest RhinoWIP (5E63w). Please give it a try.

I’ve tested the latest WIP and blockedit works as expected now. Thank you!
