I’m having a pretty big problem while trying to model screw threads, i created a helix curve, i created the thread shape itself, and i’m trying to use Sweep 1 Rail to make the thread profile follow the helix and i’m just getting a big mess of surfaces, i can’t seem to get anywhere at all with the Sweep tool.
Nevermind, i figured it out. I was selecting the profile first and then the helix, when i should have had the helix selected before the profile, it’s all working fine now.
This is much easier:

Boltgen is a plug-in that will create thread for you.

This industrial hardware website has many of the parts they sell available in several 3D formats. I prefer the STEP files.
Thanks guys, but the screws i’m making have thread diameters of 0.38mm and 360 tpi, it’s not something you can buy, at least not that i’m aware of, so available models generally won’t work, even when scaled down. I figured out how to model it properly though, so it’s not a problem.
Hi Paul,
It sounds like you’re all set but here’s a video tutorial I made regarding this too.
I made it using Rhino 4 but the techniques will work in Rhino 5 as well.
