Moving layers up the list can be cumbersome

I’m working on a project with hundreds of layers. When I drag and drop a new part into the model, the new part layer ends up on the bottom. But when I organize the newly dropped layer into where I need it, I need to move it up one layer at a time. This is the cumbersome part. I would suggest that a right click on the icon present the user with the ability to set how many layers they would like to move up (or down) with a single click.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi @DanBayn,

In Rhino 8, you can drag/drop to reorder.

Hi Dale, we still have that crazy flickering going on when we try to re-order layers. Would it be possible to fix this in the near future? Thank you.

@ShynnSup - the issue is still open.

I’m assuming more pressing issues have taken precedent.

Thanks Dale, I should have tried it in V8 before posting.

Hi Dan -

You have posted this in the Serengeti category. Does that mean that you tried this in the Rhino 9 WIP and didn’t get that to work? Drag and drop to reorder layers seems to work fine here.

No, I didn’t realize it had been added to V8, so it was a request for V9, hence the Serengeti category. I have V8, but don’t use it on a regular basis yet.

Hi Dan -

Thanks for that clarification. FWIW, the Serengeti category is for feedback on new features that are introduced in a WIP version, not so much for general wishes.

I’m having huge issues with the inability of Rhino 7 to move layers up or down the list other than a single position per mouse click. Last night I had to deal with a file consisting hundreds of layers and it was not fully at all. Soon I will need a new mouse due to the countless mouse clicks forced by Rhino.

My suggestion is to add the following right-click options:
Move on top
Move on bottom
Move 10 positions up
Move 10 positions down
Move 50 positions up
Move 50 positions down

That should cover most user scenarios, so even people with 1000 layers will be able to move certain layers with a minimal effort.
