I have a model that when trying to render out in vray or D5 continues to appear broken and warped. Ive tried moving the whole thing back to the origin but still no change. Edges are broken- and seemingly straight objects seem to lean into others and bend.
Hi Logan, post or send us the file or a part of it - tech@mcneel.com, to my attention, with a link back here in your comments. I’ll take a look tomorrow.
Select everything (_SelAll), then _Move, hit enter to use selection bounding box center, type w0 and hit enter. This moves everything to world origin.
At least with Raytraced (using the Cycles render engine) geometry looks good. You created your huge model in a millimeter unit setting, which in my opinion is overkill. For such sizes going to a thousandth of a millimeter is not useful - I doubt construction on that scale would ever achieve such precision. I’d change the model unit setting to meter and apply the scale. This will still give you millimeter accuracy for the model.
You have some overlapping geometries - copies of block instances in the very same spot. You’ll want to remove those.
Anyway, just moving to w0 (world zero), gives good results. Here with move to world origin and scale to meter model unit applied. I changed the materials to physically based to work with Raytraced.
Thank you!! I followed those instructions however, in vray the model is equally distorted. Is there anyway you can send me the file in case I did it wrong? Or have any other suggestions
I also tested your file in the Rhino 8 Beta and Nathan’s fixes work there too. I changed the model units to Meters in Options > Document Properties > Units and moved the model to 0 with the Move command.
If Vray isn’t rendering the scene right contact the Chaos group to ask if they can look at your file and send them your current version. You can also try switching the current Renderer in the Render drop down menu to Rhino Render as a test too.
