I have used Sketchup for a number years but did not like many of the ways it operated. I looked around for a replacement and decided on Rhino. I just got Rhino 8 so trying to get up to speed by looking at some videos. Mainly want to use Rhino for furniture design and some architectural work. I stumbled on a video in Youtube titled “Rhino For Beginners 1 - Bookshelf”. I got through the rounded rectangle but when I tried the command in the video Cascade Curve Tools → SubCrv and shorten from the midpoint and clicked on the curve like in the video but the midpoint is not recognized. I played it back a few times and I am doing exactly as the video creator but it does not work the same. Have no idea what I might be doing wrong.
BTW, if there are any Rhino sites for woodworking as there are for Sketchup please let me know. Ideal as a starter would be building a standard box with dovetail joints.
In the video it looked the FromMidpoint was set to No which didn’t seem right to me so I tried both Yes and No settings but neither setting would find the mid the point. Coming from Sketchup Rhino has a huge amount of capability beyond Sketchup so I’m eager to ramp up my skills.
I looked at the video and I assume you are asking about the segment which began at 0:25. (When a question is asked about a video it is helpful if link to the video and the time in the video is given.)
What is shown in the video is a different use of “midpoint”. It is not the midpoint option in the SubCrv command. Instead it is using the Midpoint Osnap to click to the midpoint of the curve. Make sure Osnaps are on and the Midpoint Osnap is selected.
