McNeel Update service running in background... how?

How is it possible that McNeel update service is running in the background of my computer when it is not a startup process and I haven’t opened Rhino?

Is it Disabled in Windows “Services”?

The McNeel Update Service is a Windows Service that starts automatically after installation. It doesn’t do much, especially when Rhino isn’t talking to it. Like JB suggested, you can disable it - but then you won’t hear about any updates.

For Rhino 8, we eliminated the windows service, and the process only runs when Rhino asks for information.

I have this same issue but there is no service. Im running R7 and R8, both have the issue. On top of that the Rhinocam update service also fails - FWs OFF, AV off, added rule for R7 to allow all on FW. Still the same issue.

Im out of ideas where this is blocked. the blockage started sometime in July but dont remember what had changed then.
