Mac Rhino ever catching up with Windows Rhino?

maybe opening up Rhino Mac WIP to non license holders would get more people involved in the development, just a thought

Now this is something that blows my mindā€¦ I have a Rhino 6 license but have been waiting forever for a mac version. Happy to help out on testing and bug reporting but I canā€™t seem to find a way to download the WIP with a valid license for the finished product! This canā€™t be difficult guys!

The Work-In-Progress development process is open to owners of the current shipping version. For the Mac 6 WIP that means you need a Mac V5 license.
We do this so we can throttle the number of user using it.
The keeps us from being overwhelmed by an early build with lots of problems, and it minimizes the number of users that might be adversely affected by problems.

Itā€™s possible that as we get closer to the end of the development, we may choose to open up the WIP process to a wider audience.
Weā€™re not at that point yet.

In partial answer to functionality missing from current V5 mac and V6 that is a real bummer for my work flow (architecture), - worksessions. I understand there are file locking issues, if they were to be overcome Iā€™d be super happy!

Thank you @ecnal_van_maanen for letting us know what you are missing. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Worksessions will not make it into Rhino 6 for Mac.

We did manage to overcome the file-locking issues, but ran smack into numerous problems with the Layer dialog that would delay shipping for a long, long time.

Any progress or outlook regarding worksessions in rhino for mac?

On a recent TRXL podcast, @scottd captures the love that Rhino users and developers bring every day, but my favorite quote has to be:

ā€œWork sessions on the Macā€¦Cā€™monā€¦ā€ -@Evan_Troxel

This is word-for-word a sentence Iā€™ve said at least more than thrice.

should have been mentioned as well

Iā€™m always told itā€™s at least 6 timesā€¦so weā€™re getting somewhere. Slowly.

Thanks for mentioning and celebrating Mac trackpad integration, I think it is sth unheard of and underrated. Imagine sitting next to a CNC / laser cutter and quickly checking sth on your laptop, being able to spontaneously navigate like a charm is extremely satisfying.
Sometimes I donā€™t even bring my mouse. Even Grasshopper is usable with the Trackpad, which is crazy.

do you also use a peripheral trackpad? i just imagine that working with a trackpad causes more strain on the muscles also the nerval tissue might be more affected, it might be superstitial at first glance but a permanent plus on action on the hand is definitely something i personally try to avoid, maybe it sounds archaic, but i still have the impression that the mouse is the best input device to date

You are right. For longer session I am always using the MX Master 3 mouse (silent click version)

But the fact that a trackpad is even usable for a few hours is a crazy feat.

hi, I was thinking of switching back to rhino on mac.
The last time I used it the command line was stuck to the default panel and also adjusting the options of command for ex. polyline had their own windows instead of just text like on windows. These were the two of the main issues I had with rhino for mac.
Is the behaviour still the same in the latest version of rhino 8 or the wip for mac or has it changed to be more like on windows?
