Losing disk space on every time I use Rhino 6

Hello,

I’m having a problem with the drive usage space, on every time I use Rhino, the free space is getting smaller and smaller, I tried to clean all the temps folders, cache, used the CCleaner and so on, but I cannot find where are missing the (now it is) 8gb of free space, that I had before.
Whenever I use the Rhino, the free space decreases.
I am using also the Vray, but even when I am not touching in this plugin, the space steadily decreases…

Can someone help me on this before I run out of space? Thanks

Wonder if it’s your autosave files - now they are stored in the trash instead of being deleted… Check there maybe?

Rhino’s Autosave files are now moved to the Windows Recycle Bin.
Is yours filling up?
I can not recommend use of CCleaner or anything similar.

With the low cost of storage, why are you living with so little room?

I always empty the recycle bin, and as I mention, not only I clean manually all the temps folders that I could find,I also use CCleaner to help me on this task.
About buying a new disk, even if I would have 1TB of free space, by this rate, I would run out of space in 6 months… Because I already lost 8Gb of space in just one week of work with Rhino. My file size is around 200Mb.

Maybe you just need a bigger disk. You can get a 4TB (4194304 MB) disk drive for around $70US

That does not answer why did fly away 8gb or more of space with just one working file of 200Mb…

Have you tried purging your TEMP folder?

is clean

I have seen a few cases with Vray where material definitions were being duplicated and saved multiple times within a file.
It is file specific and specific to Vray.

If you look at a 3dm file size, open it, do a couple small things, then save it, is the file itself getting a lot larger?

This was the symptom we were seeing.

As I recall this was some time ago, right? That we were seeing Vray related file bloat? I believe a new version fixed all that… @ripedro - what version of Vray do you have? Can you please run SystemInfo in Rhino and post the results?

-Pascal

I am using the last version Vray, is in demo mode, because I am learning to work with it in Rhino.
Maybe can be a clue, there was a moment before this last Rhino release (2 days ago), it was crashing a lot, many times I could not find a direct relation with Vray, but there was always something telling me that could be Vray causing those craches. Today no crash has happen.

Hello - is any of the Rhino files unexpectedly large?

-Pascal

could you help me to find it out?

Hello - please run Audit3dmFIle and locate one of the files you’ve been working with - post the results here…

=) can you just post a text file?

-Pascal

Oh! Sorry!
File Audict.txt (117.2 KB)

So, the file itself does not seem to be the problem, from what I can see. If you block VRay in Options > Plug-ins page and then restart Rhino do you see the disk space being eaten up as before?

-Pascal

OMG! This is geting even more weird…
I made now some tests: One week ago I had 21Gb of free space.
Now, when I started to do the testing I had 13.2GB; First test, I open the same file in which today morning I had +/-15Gb space free, made a VRay render of a scene. Finished, save it and close Rhino. Final result = 13.2 GB. Second test: I followed your instructions… Final result = 13.1GB, but maybe this small difference is also related with the internet browser, where I am writing this post.

Hello Ripedro,

When you save your files do you get the *.3dmbak files ?

Thank you,

Andy
