Lock direction while moving and copying

Is there a way to lock the direction while moving and copying? We do have the option vertically but any other X,Y and specific angles etc.

Does pressing the tab key do what you want.

Edit. Just a bit more info, start moving in the direction you want or hover over a snap point and press tab to lock that direction.
