Hello, I’m using Rhino 8, Once I extrude any surface I can’t draw or snap on any edges, curve or any surface. the snap selects the point on the plane.
Hi -
That sounds like you have Project
turned on in your OSnaps.
-wim
No, it is not turned on. All the settings are in default mode.
Then we’ll need more information.
Please provide both the output of the Rhino SystemInfo
command and a 3dm file that we can take a look at.

Hi -

Rhino practice.3dm (1.4 MB)
Hello, so basically I can’t draw or select anything on the Z axis.
Your file looks/works fine here. I would suggest you update your video driver in any case, but not sure that will solve the problem.
Hi -
Can you provide detailed steps about what you are doing? Which command are you running? Can you post a screenshot of the OSnaps? Perhaps turn on the OSnap tooltip and make a screen recording?
-wim
Let’s say if I draw a box or a rectangle. and then if I select the line or polyline line command to draw on the surface or curve of the box the snap actually goes through the box and selects the grid on the surface of the CPlane. It’s like it is not detecting the box.
Hi -
That’s what the Project
option does.
In the Rhino Options, under Modeling Aids → Snaps, check the Project object snaps to CPlane
and Project object snaps to CPlane in plan parallel views
options.
-wim
Thankyou.
Okay, so if I select a plane I can make a line on the Z axis. but if I select an object and try to place it on another object it won’t select the other object or any point of the object.
Like I can’t stack an object upon another like if I had to make a staircase.
Run Move
, select the one object. At the Point to move from
prompt, snap to a corner of that object. At the Point to move to
prompt, snap to a corner of the other object.
At which point does that not work?
-wim
the point doesn’t snap to anything on the Z-Axis or anything above the surface. it just selects through the object. I have turned on all the boxes you have asked me to on Snap and Project.
Make sure Project is turned OFF.
yup, still nothing.
Okay so here I’m trying to mirror the Curve on the object but for me to select a reference point it won’t select any point or line on the surface, instead it goes straight through the surface.
