Level lines (background)

Hi,
Is there a possibility that I can display the lines of the levels in a printout in layout?

Hi @11170,

I’m afraid the only way to have these lines printed in layout is by manually drawing them for now. However, we are planning to add an option to display them in section views.

Hi @11170 , take a look at this annotation style: Elevation mark for Vertical Views | Food4Rhino
It could help you as a workaround.

But i think I can’t use them in the layout…

That’s true. We need to allow inserting annotations in the layout space. In the meantime, you can insert them in the model space, and put them in different layers so you can control their visibility by Detail Viewport in the page layout.

Will this be possible in the layout in the following versions?

Does the annotation work only for meters? can I change It to centimeters?

Hello!
That sounds very good!
I’m wondering if it is possible to create vaAnnotqtions with GH that are aware of the Detail/Viewport they are in, and it’s scale.

It looks like the conversion into cm is failing. I’ll check it out.

That’s the idea. But I can’t say when we will be able to implement it right now.

I don’t think so. Of course you can create annotations with a custom “scale” parameter that make the object change its representation, but I don’t think it can be linked to the Detail view and the zoom/scale used in it.

Thanks, Francesc! Example: I use custom elevation symbols in model space (done with GH scripts in a vaAnnotation, for floorplans and elevations, based on your example). They have also a scale and rotate parameter. Rotation is necessary, too, because the vaAnnotation object itself cannot be rotated - it snaps back to the original orientation.
If theoretically the GH script could find out in which viewport it just draws into, it would be great. I’m aware that it ain’t that easy.

Or, do you see a way to put vaAnnotations in a Layout, and it recognizes the object inside of a Detail it is placed onto? Just like regular Rhino dimensions work. They even move together with the Detail.

That’s possible. Just need to have as input param a Plane instead of a point, and during the creation of the annotation style wizard, select that plane as Insert Plane:

Important!: you need to save the gh file with no plane assigned to the Plane Param.

We need to study how to implement this. On one hand, allow inserting annotation objects in page layout, and secondly, make them detecting the scale of a Detail where they lay on.

Good idea! Will try that.

As you know, that’s how it works in e.g. Revit.
Generally, I tend to a workflow where the Model space is left uncluttered, and the Layout space is used to it’s full potential. So, being able to place annotations there would be a logical move.
Thanks!

But I’ve derailed the thread, sorry!

+1 from me for this!
There would be some graphical parameters needed, then, for the font, linetype, elevation mark etc.

And, please, make the level lines in the viewport snappable! That would save a lot! of clicks. You have this in your records already.
I know that these lines are a mere ‘overlay’ in the viewport, but maybe there’s a technical trick to ‘inject’ these lines into the snapping mechanism or something.
Thanks!
