Layout windows does not apply Arctic display mode (or custom)

Hi,
I have many issues in layouts, on Perspective or orthographic views, every display modes are ok, even the customs, but when creating a viewport onto a layout and applying the same view/display, it look like “ghosted”, flat and not using the sections plane, even after checking if they are well applied…

Help needed, latest drivers , test with or without CPU/GPU… reset by default… nothing works…
I also try both Mac and PC…

Join screenshot, on top Right view, bottom, the Right view inside a layout…
Arctic mode…

Regards

Hi -

Please run the Rhino SystemInfo command and copy-paste the result here.
If this issue is file-specific, please provide a simple 3dm file that shows the issue.

Hello - Does this happen with a new model, with just a box or something in it? If this is specific to one model, please SaveSmall, Zip and send to tech@mcneel.com with a link back to this topic in your comments.

-Pascal

Hi @pascal , @wim

I send you file , but after many tests, it happens that it is something linked to my layouts.
Creating a new layout with a new window, and it works… the matter is that actually i “clean” my file (to send), but my work file contains lot of layouts…

Antoine

By testing I finally found the problem.
I create my layout and my viewport inside a “template file”
Then in my work file, I import the layout from this template, but it also import this detail view.

Using the imported detailview makes the arctic or every other mode not working properly (like Xray without sections).

But if I create a new layout, a new detail inside, it works well.
I also copy paste the good detail view inside the “bad layout” aside the “bad” detail view.
Both are together, but one is ok, the other is not ok.

I think that the problem come from importing detail view from external file.

I test this step both on Mac an PC with the same issue.

Hope it helps to solve this

Hello - thanks for the details, I’ll see if I can reproduce this.
I cannot - can you please disable Enscape in Options > Plug-ins page and then close and restart Rhino? Is there any change in the behavior?

-Pascal

Hi -

Thanks, I can see what you are reporting with the file that you linked to in your eMail.
I’m not sure what’s wrong with that detail but I put it on the list as RH-64973 to be further investigated.

From an older bug item (RH-32010) I see that importing a layout that has a detail with an active clipping plane will somehow attach that clipping plane information in a file that has no clipping plane. As a result of this, I imagine, the clipping plane intersections are not getting display correctly. So that accounts for that part of your report. It’s possible that this duplication of clipping planes then also leads to the other things that you see but we’ll see what the developer finds out.

For the time being, I wouldn’t import layouts from files with an active clipping plane.

Apart from all that - I noticed that on your Windows machine, you are throttling back your GPU:

There shouldn’t be a reason to do that for your RTX card. In Rhino, go to Rhino Options > View > OpenGL and make sure to put the slider all the way to the right:

-wim

I’m having what I think is a similar problem; I’m trying to generate a layout where the details are rendered in ‘Arctic’ mode, but the detail windows ignore my settings and do things like display curves when they’re switched off, especially when I print the sheet. There are also mesh wireframes that show when not switched on and ghosting. Attached are screenshots showing a model view and a layout view using exactly the same display mode. I’ve tried generating layouts from scratch, but it keeps happening. I’m on a Mac that is fairly new…

Thoughts?

Nick

I didn’t get any reply to this; I’m assuming that I’m posting on the wrong thread - can someone point to the right one? I’m also still experiencing this issue, especially curves showing up in the final print despite being switched off.
Thanks, Nick

Hi Nick -
Please run the Rhino SystemInfo command and copy-paste the result here.
Also, please upload a simple 3dm file that shows the behavior that you are experiencing.
-wim

I have also problems with the Arctic mode. I made an Arctic mode with black outlines which is displayed right in perspective mode but when in Layout mode it shows the outlines in ‘use object’s color’

is this some kind of bug?

I have found the solution for my problem. Print display was ‘on’. If I print to pdf with ‘Output color’ set to ‘Display color’ then it goes all good.
