In the latest version of Rhino 8 (8.16.25021.13002, 2025-01-21) on macOS 114.7 (Sonoma), there seems to be a bug with the layer palette getting unresponsive after some time, at which point Rhino needs to be relaunched.
By unresponsive, I mean that you can still select the individual layers, but the little gizmos, like color swatch, lightbulb, lock, an so fourth, don’t react to any mouse button event/click any more.
It happened right after using PushPull a couple of times, but doesn’t seem to be exclusive to the latter.
I’m not seeing such behavior on my end.
Which version of Rhino were you running before installing the January 21st version of 8.16? I can get you a link to the .dmg so that we can make sure that this is something that changed in Rhino at a specific point.

i have this issue for quite a while already. i am working on sequoia i am not sure when it started i also have the frequency set to candidate but it is there for a while, it happens often when i have rhino open for longer with files open, working on other apps then return at some time.
This morning, I’ve worked for about two hours on a hobby project in Rhino 8.15 and the layer palette again partially froze. The problem thus might be older than I previously believed.
As @encephalon already noted above, it might be linked to Rhino being open for some time and the computer going to sleep and waking back up, but the freeze definitely happens while working, not while Rhino is idle. This time I noticed it right after doing surface trimming for a failed edge fillet of an exploded brep.
Sorry, but I haven’t got any clue, what triggers this. I can’t see any distinct pattern yet.
