Layer State Manager - Detail Specific Linetypes

Hello,

Is it possible to control Linetypes, on a detail level, using Layer States?

Our Interior Design studio is doing some Rhino template admin, and we wanted to remove some of the friction when it comes to repetitive geometry when drafting. Specifically, we would like to show ceiling geometry as dashed in a floorplan detail, then show the same geometry as continuous in an RCP detail. At the moment we have to maintain two separate layers for each case.

Not so bad when the project is small and has minimal revisions, however with medium to large projects changes can become hard to track.

If this is not available, it would be great to see it implemented.

Cheers.

no, this is not possible currently. This is a long standing wish item and I added this thread
The YT is aiming at per detail linetypes, which would be the first requirement for this to be carried over to layer states.

Thanks Gijs. I look forward to seeing it implemented in the future.

I’m not overly familiar with how rhino handles object states between model space, layouts and details, but would this be a complicated addition?

However, layer states are compatble between details and layouts, but not model space.
So, wish: Layer states of all three spaces should be compatible!

Since in R8 the layer system has been reworked (Both model space and detail/layout now have global AND local visibility, and thus became identical), this should be within reach, no?

Together with linetypes in layer states, we would have another stepping stone towards a more flexible/unified/logical system of defining and transferring the look of any space (model, detail, layout).

And the next step could be: making layer states ‘sticky’ - as a parameter of a space. Change a layer state, and all spaces using it change with it…

There’s so much untapped potential here…

This is not true. You can save a layer state from a model view and restore it to a layout/detail view (and vise versa). Obviously, a layer state saved from a model view does not contain per-viewport layer properties and, thus, cannot restore these properties. The same hold true when restoring a layer state, created in a layout/detail view, in a model view.

Ok, thanks for the clarification!
I was pretty sure at one point I couldn’t get it to work. Should have checked again (No Rhino access right now).
Good to hear this should work officially.

Regarding global/per-viewport properties: how about adding a way to transfer between both when restoring layer states?
The idea: maybe I’ve set up model space layers in a way I like (which can be a lot of work), how can I ‘imprint’ that layer setup onto local layer settings of a detail (or the other way around)?
