Hello!
I noticed some keyboard shortcuts have been added to the new layer panel:
That’s pretty cool! Yet I seem to be too stupid to invoke them. When the menu is open and I press any of these keys (S, N, U, …), it is written to the command line, and nothing else happens. Same when the menu is closed and I’m just hovering over the panel, pressing a key.
Is this w.i.p.?

Anyhow, these would be a welcome addition! Keep them coming, please…
Would you consider the possibility of invoking them just by hovering over the Layer panel (without the necessity of opening the menu)? Context sensitive shortcuts, practically (one of the UI goodies of the great Softimage XSI, back then, which was renowned for it’s particularly well designed UX).
I’m aware that might feel disruptive for those of us used to the fact that any keystroke is sent to the command line. However, after some adapting, this can be a real booster…
I’ve been wondering about these shortcuts too since I noticed them recently, glad I found this topic. I would have never guessed that you’re supposed to RMB layer to open the context menu and then hold RMB again and press the desired key.
I support @Eugen’s suggestion that it would be great if you just selected the layer and while having the mouse still over the layer panel, pressing the key would call up the function. Although I am also slightly worried that it could be then triggered accidentally when trying to type commands.
So what about a compromise - you’d still have to open the context menu but then you would press the key directly without having to hold RMB? This shouldn’t cause any accidents.
I’d also love to have a shortcut for “Change object layer”.
By the way, context sensitive shortcuts are there already - Delete key deletes selected object if mouse cursor is over a viewport or a layer if you move the cursor over the Layer panel. And yes, numerous times I’ve accidentally deleted a layer instead of an object (or was met with a warning I’m about to delete one that contains objects) but I don’t complain. But I admit that with letter keys it would be probably worse.
I also have those shortcuts, i would not mind at all if the Delete Function now is not possible by pressing “DELETE”. I have to right click and manually select delete, which is something I do not enjoy at all
Any chance to manually change the shortcut for delete back to what i was before?
