Hi

Windows or Mac?
Country?
Cost constraints?
How much and type of rendering on the laptop?
Windows
Sweden
1000 -1500 euros
No rendering I donāt want to kill it again
Maybe something like this:
Shame you need a laptop really. Desktops are such better value. Check Youtube for some good reviews.
An RTX 5060 is probably as good as possible at this budget, or you end up with weird efficiency focused chips with mismatched GPU.
FYI, you should absolutely be able to render on a laptop all day if the thermal solution is good enough. I used to render in Cycles and bella render on an MSI Apatche with an Intel 6700HQ and⦠a GTX970M. ![]()
I am building a new desktop soon my PC is from 2012 so itās old
I travel alot now so I need to be able to bring cad with me
Iād get a MacBook Pro M4 Max 16" with 64 GB and a 2 TB SSD. Chews through everything like it were jelly. Great battery life. Runs Windows 11 apps via Parallels very reliably.
Let me just take out that student wallet I am sure there is money there if I look hard enough
Itās already bad enough Iām spending on filament rolls and build plates for my 3d printer letās not bankrupt mr cadartz yetš
Nice tech specs tho :o

What about HP laptops? This one has some nice specs I think and they have a sale now
It pains me to say it, but it does look pretty good.
Dell and HP I wouldnāt trust near any PC, but I think they still make decent laptops in their gaming range.
Try somewhere like Jarrods Tech on YouTube. He does really good laptop reviews. Sometimes they are a little too much (high end), but he also will give a feeling on the overall brand.
Looks a good find to me! ![]()
What troubles are they known for?
I will check his videos
Not sure thier laptops (Omen) are known for anything in particularly. Maybe higher pricing. Its the PC prebuild side that is dire; placing a passive cooler (Dell) on a 14900K, for example. HP are just as useless.
What you have found looks decent at first glance.
If you have access to refurbished hardware in Sweden, I recommend the HP Z Book. Last year, for the price youāre talking about, I bought (in Poland) a refurbished Z Book Fury G8: Intel Core i7-11850H - 8 cores (versions with Xeon and Intel i9 processors are available), NVIDIA RTX A5000 graphics card with 16 GB of memory, 32 GB of RAM (expandable to 128 GB), 1 TB NVMe drive (can install four M.2 drives + one 2.5-inch drive), 17.3-inch display, aluminum casing, removable 94 Wh battery. Big, rugged, heavy (about 3 kg), and indestructible. For me, itās irreplaceable, especially in the field (photogrammetry and laser scanning) where I canāt take my desktop HP Z8, but it can also successfully replace a desktop computer.
We have those in campus but for some reason my class year could not get any which is such a letdown
I will have to check for refurbished ones they have nice power for my needs
Luckily your shaded modes look quite good!
Laptops tend to have a short(er) lifespan. If I render I have a cooling stand underneath. I donāt do very long renders. I also donāt game. Honestly I think gaming might be even worse. And I know itās a given but make sure you donāt block your intakes/exhausts and donāt let excessive dust and cat hair get into your machine haha! You should get at least a couple years out of a lower-end model without pampering it but also without abusing it.
FWIW: the 4070 laptop scores roughly the same on Blender Benchmark as the 5060. Driver updates might push the 5060 a little further but as of now I would opt of a machine with a 4070 if the other specs (or the price) were relatively better. My 4070 laptop has been good so far - not great but good. When I get brave enough Iām going to rip it open and add RAM. I think thatās its bottle neck. This laptop is just a stop gap but well worth it.
I have not owned a laptop since 2008 so Im really outdated what they can do today
And they can probably render now itās just Iād prefer bigger screen and proper cooling
I have a steam deck for lighter gaming these days so I probably wont do any of that now itās either Rhino/SW 3d printing and school work
Itās enough to keep me entertained
You did not specify your budget. You asked āLaptop recommendations for Rhinoā. Thus, I recommended one.
if you want something reliable with good performance in the lower budget segment i would get an apple silicon the macbook air 15 inch, you dont need a lot of ram in these due to its integrated architecture so the entry model would do easy peasy with 16 gb. these things have really good performance, i would say best price to performance ratio.
Indeed.
As long as McNeel keep prioritizing āfancyā over āefficientā, I would keep staying away from Apple.
(Rhino for Mac is just bad, its UI and UX should just be identical to the Windows oneā¦)
There is this nice laptop assembler:

I mean Iāve only used windows Rhino with all versions does it differ that much from each other?
v7 was in its ui far more sufficient in many aspects and not about fanciness, than now in v8, what they did now is indeed assimilate the mac ui more to windows which is an unfortunate step backwards. i dont mind both versions growing tighter together but it did not happen in a positive way. creating and editing commands and shortcuts for instance was executed far better allowing you to actually search for commands and edit them quickly, now you have you scroll your butt off..
the ui was also much calmer in v7, now every icon and tab keeps shouting for attention. even more so in wip9
now not anymore it is very similar, i believe the command line also has an update in the wip now allowing you make it look even more alike if one wants, which i personally dont because it creates too much lost real estate
