Join command alters geometry

Yesterday the Join command in Rhino 5 went nuts. It completely changes some of the geometry resulting in naked edges. I thought the installation of Rhino 6 WIP might have been the cause so I reinstalled the latest version, but the number of modified surfaces increased. I attached two screen prints to show what happens - I’m not about to save one of these distorted files. This was a quick and dirty model to try out a new mold building technique. I don’t dare open one of my more complicated models until I get this resolved.

Hi Earl,

Can you share the model or part of it here, pictures alone are not enough in this case I guess.

I found the problem. The features are on the order of .005" and sometimes smaller. I increased the absolute tolerance to .0001" from the default .01" and things are back to normal. I missed that a new install resets all the tools to the defaults…

Hi Earl - if you make templates that you like, SaveAsTemplate to some new name not used by the defaults and it will not be overwritten if you need to reinstall. Would not hurt to back these up as well.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve not looked at templates as I just use what I need to get the job done. There’s so much stuff in Rhino I don’t think I’ll ever explore it all.
