I’m encountering an issue with Karamba 3D for Rhino 7.**
I’ve attempted installation through two methods:
Direct Installation: I installed Karamba 3D (version 3.1.4) for Rhino 7. However, Grasshopper doesn’t recognize the plugin, which it’s installed in the expected path: C:\Program Files\Rhino 7\Plug-ins .
**00_Install+License.gh Script: After Running this script allows me to see the Karamba 3D toggle in Grasshopper. However, the license encounters an issue with the Karamba.dll file (runtime error references Rhino 5). While this method works, Karamba 3D isn’t found in the standard path mentioned above. Instead, it’s located here: C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\McNeel\Rhinoceros\packages\7.0\Karamba3D\3.1.40718 .
Here’s the additional problem:
Conflicting Installations: If I attempt both installation methods, Rhino initiates a plugin loading page that detects two Karamba versions, but only one is usable.
Freezing on Reopen: After reopening Rhino following this process, the same situation occurs. However, Rhino freezes and never completes the loading procedure.
Hi, you can only have one version installed otherwise Rhino will not open. You should uninstall one of the versions.
What is the exact error message you receive when you install one of the versions? Did you also make sure that your Rhino is updated to the latest version.
I’ve tried all possible combinations and methods with available Karamba versions. The .msi archives for 3.1.4 Rhino 7 don’t work correctly. Rhino doesn’t recognize the installation.
Rhino 7, Windows11 Home are updated.
And For each way I have uninstalled and cleaned the directiories where 3DKaramba is installled.
When using the package manager in Rhinoceros 7:
2.2.0.180: Crashes when attempting to run a 50 shell elements example of the pinned plate.
3.1.40531 and 3.1.40718: Produce the following errors. The only difference between the two is that a first-time plugin preparation pop-up appears in Rhino’s interface with the first version, but not the second. When loading Grasshopper, both ways display the attached warnings, and the License toggle shows the following error:
An error occurred during license checking: Grasshopper can not find a suitable version of ‘karamba.dll’. Check whether you use Karamba3D 64bit with Rhino 5 64bit (it has 64 in its program name) and Karamba3D 32 bit with all other Rhino versions. Try to uninstall and reinstall Karamba. If this does not help check out the trouble shooting section of the manual. (System.Exception: System.Exception: Grasshopper can not find a suitable version of ‘karamba.dll’. I tested on my older laptop with Rhino 7 (updated on 12/12/2023) and Karamba works flawlessly. This suggests a potential conflict between Rhino updates and Karamba.
Additionally, the only difference in the Karamba installation process was that I did not use the .msi installer. That might suggest that something remains in the system after the .msi uninstallation.
Hi, there seems to be a problem with trace installation on your computer. Make sure to uninstall Karamba completely, then check in the installation folders - the ones that you mentioned - and make sure there are no files installed.
Then just run the msi installer. You should not run both installations at the same time, otherwise your Rhino will freeze as you mentioned.
I believe there may have been a misunderstanding. I have not attempted to install Karamba in multiple ways simultaneously. I did so once previously and determined it was not a viable solution.
I uninstal all remnants of Karamba and then proceed with an alternative approach every time. I am currently doing one more time what you suggested with no success
I would like to inquire about potential compatibility issues between the latest Rhino7 update and Karamba. Additionally, I have attached the error message I encountered during the Karamba 3.1.4 installation process. Have you had a chance to review it?
Given the time-sensitive nature of my project and the fact that I am a licensed user, I am seeking a more expedient resolution than relying on forum support, which appears to have a lengthy response time. Is there an alternative contact or support channel I can utilize?
