Issues with display modes in Rhino BETA

idk, I’m really out of ideas what this could be.

Is that environment map familiar to you? I suppose that it’s some default environment map or a shiny material.

yes, it’s the environment map in that display mode. You see it correctly reflected in the plane that I assigned a metal material

Note that the visual bug only occurs at certain camera angles and distance to the simple plane. I can’t recreate it most of the time, but it typically happens when the camera angle is similar to what’s shown in my screenshots in this topic.

Also, even after resetting the latest Rhino 9 Beta multiple times and using DirectX, I still notice that the first time I switch to the “Concept” display mode there is a delay of about 1-2 seconds, despite that the plane is the simplest possible geometry in Rhino. What’s more interesting is that the delay also happens on a blank scene with no geometry inside.

in that case… sending the file will help a lot!

I will make sure to save the plane and send it to you if I encounter the bug again. It also happened in many 3d files, including ones made 10 years ago. Check your PM for a sample video that I already sent to @Vanessa. Some files consisting semi-transparent and grouped objects flash like a Christmas three when I switch to “Concept” display mode.

a video is useless unfortunately. The only chance for a fix, is to reproduce it first.

The bug with flashing colours that you saw in my video with the car is no longer repeatable in the latest Rhino 9 Beta that I installed today. However, that old file made in Rhino 7 still can’t be rendered properly in the “Concept” display mode. It remains almost like “Rendered” with wireframe outlines.
It consists materials made in Rhino 7, so my guess is that these are not fully compatible with Rhino 9 Beta.

The switch to the custom display mode with this particular image is instant in the latest Rhino 9 Beta.

@Rhino_Bulgaria do you need the NVIDIA Experience (or NVIDIA App it is called these days I think)? The NVIDIA Overlay could be interfering with drawing code. I would just uninstall it, I have never thought that app provided any value ever, only cause issues - at least close it. If you have other software that do overlays or OSDs close those as well. Then see if the issues still exist.

I regularly make video captures while I work in Rhino, both for tutorials and bug reports, so I need the Nvidia Experience program.

Also, note that Rhino 7 is extremely stable and works flawlessly with all the display modes, materials, toolbars etc.

I see issues with some of my display modes as well. The issue I see is that the colour of the surfaces becomes white, despite what the actual colour is supposed to be. I will attach one of the display modes that is behaving like this. So far I haven’t been able to figure out why.

@DanBayn thanks, I think this is not a problem with that display mode, but a more global bug. Try turning off shadows…

Nobody needs Nvidia experience to make video captures. OBS is great for that as it doesn’t do any overlay shenanigans.

If you’re display mode has shadows turned ON, then try turning them off and see what happens…

It appears that this is widespread… it’s happening on Mac, Windows (DirectX and OpenGL)… so clearly something is busted.

These bugs were not present one month ago in the earlier Rhino 9 WIP builds, so I guess it will be easy to find the wrong portion of he code.

Nvidia Experience uses a dedicated video capture processor unit (NVENC), hence it does not consume extra resources from my PC. This is extremely important, especially while working on heavy files.
Along with that, it captures with nearly 99% lossless quality while keeping the file size at minimum, beating any video capture software.
