Hi!
I would like to know, please, how to smooth two surfaces, in order i have no angles between them, but, a surface smooth, in order the object has no perpendicular angles.
Someone says me to go to Fillet Edges command, with rayon variable, blut, i tried, and it is an horrible surface i have. He says to put 0.2 for the rayon, but, i made this and it is awful.
I saw tutorial about Fillet Edges but, in my case, i don’t understand at all what i have to doo, and how the command works, and her logical too.
As i have the commercial Rhino 6 version but in french, could you please tell me step by step how to do this?
I now in french he says “Congés sur Bords à rayon variable”, but i don’t understand this command.
Thanks so much!
try this: explode > select one surface > split > choose isocurve in the option > split the surface further back from the edge > repeat for second surface > delete “leftovers” > blend surface
Hi Konrad!
Thanks so much!
I tried to do it, doing “explode”, and after, extract surfaces, and with each surface, scaling it a little bit smaller, and at the end, doing “Raccordement surfaces”, and “Boucher les trous”, in order to have a polysurface at the end. This is on the pink layer called “RaccordementSurf” of this file here.
But, i think this is very long.
Someone says me that using only “Fillet Edges and “congés sur Bords”, à rayon variable, you can do it easily, only with 3 clocks of mouse, and without exploding the surfaces.
Can you please help me?
I tried to do what you said but i can’t go at the end, and, moreover, i really think that the essier way is to use “Fillet Edges”, Congés sur bords à rayon variable”.
I join you the surface on the black and first layer cEssaiForum.3dm (360.7 KB) alled “forum”.
Thanks so much if you can show me how to use this with Fillet Edges command!
Hi Konrad!
Thanks so much!
It is nearly ok, only that, i don’t know how to have the fillet that goes all around the surface, without interruption.
I don’t know why i don’t have this, because i think i made all the options, can you please help me?
I join here the steps i am doing.
Thanks so much!
@kostaldeak stefania answered the question.
but there are other things I noticed with your model: scale: the whole thing is tiny, if it’s the correct size- it was about 6mm, while it shouldn’t be a problem depending on your your tolerance settings it can be. Best to always work in the correct scale tolerance settings: they are to loose, the absolute tolerance defined in your .3dm file is 0.01mm which is problematic if you want to model radius of 0.1mm position of the model: it was positioned somewhere in the workspace; it is best to center your model around 0,0,0 to avoid trouble and to have some benefits when e.g. mirroring. many control points the model has way to many control points; you can achieve a similar shape with 6-8 control points, fewer control points often lead to better working rhino commands and more controllable surfaces
Hi Stef!
Thanks so much!
As i don’t have the english version of Rhino, but only the french version, can you please tell me if it is a function inside “Congés sur Bords”, and after, what i tried to do, is “enchainer les bords”, but i don’t know how to do this.
I join here my screenshot.
Can you please tell me how to do this?
Thanks so much!
Hi Konrad!
Thanks so much!
To answer to you, yes, it is the good scale.
When you speak about “tolerance settings”, is it inside the function “Congés sur Bords”, and after “enchainer les bords”, is it “Tolerance ecart”, like you can see in my screenshot i give to answer to Steph? So, what would be in this case the best tolerance to put?
Position of the model and Control Point: yes, i change it now.
So, could you please tell me how to do because i don’t know how to do?
Thanks so much for help me!
Hi Konrad! Thanks so much!
The only thing is that i don’t understand what means what wrote Stef when she says :“The edge remains unfillet because it wasn’t part of the selection.
Try either to “MergeEdge” before fillet or enable Chainedges on fillet command
edit: I meant it wasn’t part of the selection”.
I don’t know what i have to do in order to have the fillet all around the surface?
Thank so much!
Hi - basically, you just need to make sure that all parts of the edge around the surface are selected. In the file that you posted, when I select the edge, the entire edge is automatically selected - perhaps you are using a slightly different model? (I also noticed that you are using an old version of Rhino 6 - please update to the current 6.18 version):
At this point, though, I wouldn’t worry about that yet. Make sure to get a clean model first by doing what Konrad wrote about the control points. Right now, you have a very messy model and continuity on the edge is “all over the place” - this is the Curvature Graph of the top edge curve:

Hi Wim!
Thanks so much!
I think it was because i didn’t select the end of " congés sur bords", that has to be at the same point that the beginning.
Now, it seems ok, but i have to practice, because for me, this fonction is not easy.
Thanks so much!
Hi Conrad, thanks so much!
For a new project, i try again, and i think i did all i had to do,but, as youcan see in my video i show you here, i can’t obtain a good result, there are horrible things! I put the radius at 1.3 mm as Rhino indicates, but it is horrible what i have. Can you please tell me why?
Here is my video, step by step:
Thanks so much if youcan help me! Really, this fonction is very diffcicult, i readwhat you said to read, but ican’t understand it well, as iwant to have the fillet all around the surface.
Thanks!
Hi Wim! Thanks so much!
As you can see below, i tried with a new project and i did a video i posted here, but i can’t obtain a result, and i know why! I read what you adviced about this command, but it is impossible for me to have the good result, even if i think i did all i had to do!
Thanks so much!
Hi!
Here i give you the file
Thanks so much
Other thing: since this morning, i have big crashes with my rhino 6 liccence commercial. And it happened strange thing: opening at a time, my rhino command was in english, as it is every times in french, as i am french, it seems very strange things with my Rhino… Forum12.3dm (354.5 KB)
Hi Conrad, thanks so much. It seems a little bit complicated, no?
Well, i will try, but first i have to translate the commands you says to do, in french, as my rhino is in french.
Thanks so much!
