I’d like to reproduce the special surface texture visible on the skirt (gallery) of this ring, and I’m looking for advice on how to achieve it. Has anyone worked with this type of finish before or knows the techniques/tools needed?
You might generate the basic form as a subd, create a displacement map and apply it. That assumes you can use a mesh as the result. If you are 3d printing wax, a mesh would work. If you are familiar with grasshopper, there are ways to generate a similar texture but can be a lengthy process to set all the parameters up up to get the result you want.
If you are CNC machining, you might need a nurbs model, and there could be some limiting factors with that process and the level of detail or surface variation.
