How do I set view perpendicular to angled objects?

What am I doing wrong? I want a perpendicular view to this but no go. OrientCameraToSrf doesn’t change anything. I set the cplane to the object and thought there was a “set view to CPlane” but that but the command is set CPlane to view. I’ve done this before, but am drawing a blank. Duh.

Hello - if you have a CPlane oriented as you like it, Plan will look straight one at the CPlane.

Thanks. But still not getting what I want. “Plan” gives me a view of the top side, not the underside. I assume that has something to do with setting the CPlane?

Yes.
I’d use the CPlane command with the 3 point option to set the CPlane to match the surface.
Then save the CPlane with a name so you can get back to it later.
While the new CPlane is in effect, then run the Plan command.

any luck?

That worked. Not sure why setting the CPlane to object surface didn’t, but I can move forward now. Thanks.

Setting the CPlane and setting the viewport view are 2 separate, distinct operations.

I know. I just don’t understand why setting the CPlane by 3 points worked, but but setting it by object surface did not.

Gremlins?
I have no idea.
Over time I have come to rely on the 3-point option instead of the more automatic options.
The extra picks are worth it for me to avoid a disrupted work flow.

Hello- - setting the CPlane > ToObject sets the plane X and Y according to the face’s U and V, which can be any of several different orientations.
