Is this possible? Can we make a command macro for snaps? I would like to assign a key to turn on-off End, Mid, Near…etc.
Thanks, Yall
Please assume if I post in this forum that all forms of searching and RTFM have been done…

I remember reading similar post very recently, try searching the forums.
Hello -
Osnap End
will toggle the persistent End osnap - is that what you mean?
-Pascal
You can create a shortcut for any rhino command some are already assigned to hotkeys line, move, etc…
I would like to press “E” to turn on end snap, press it again and have it turn off end snap
I would like to press “N” to turn on near snap, press it again and have it turn off near snap
I would like to press “M” to turn on mid snap, press it again and have it turn off mid snap
Etc., etc., etc., these are just examples and does not represent the full lists of snaps
A global “all” snaps off key would be good too…
I find sometimes i’m turning snaps on and off more than commands, so if hot keys for commands makes sense then why not snaps???
Hello - if you put
OSnap End Enter
on an F-key in Options> Keyboard it will work as you describe - toggling End.
If you want to use plain letters, an alias, then you can do that but you’ll need an Enter or Spacebar after tying the letter to fire it off. You can also enable any of the snaps as a one-shot any time - that will not set the persistent snaps but it will override them for one pick, i.e. whatever the snaps are set to, if you type End and Enter when Rhino is looking for a point location, then End will kick in.

Thanks.
I was confused because the snap names do not appear in the command list (but maybe they should??)
still a little confused- what is the difference between Alias and Keyboard in the Rhino options? They appear to do the same thing.
Hello - Aliases can have any combination of letters and require an Enter/RMB/Spacebar to launch, keyboard shortcuts are restricted to the F-keys and modified F-key combinations (e.g. Ctrl-F5) and do not require Enter to launch. That makes them handier, it seems to me, for often used toggles, though I find the modified f-keys pretty useless if I want to go at all fast…
-Pascal
One addition to what @Pascal explained: for the key shortcuts, you can actually use more than F-keys with Ctrl, Ctrl+Shift, or Ctrl+Alt combinations. The F-keys are harder for quick use, but you could possibly consider making a key combos of Ctrl+Shift+E for “End”, Ctrl+Shift+M for “Middle” etc…

Thanks Yall,
I guess I should explain that I use voice control software for Rhino commands, so as long as I can assign keystrokes to commands I can speak that command. Way easier to remember and faster! I have a space mouse for my left hand, a mic for voice, and of course a mouse in the right hand. Incredibly fast, as I can move the model, the cursor, change views, initiate a command, switch orto/ gridsnap all seemingly simultaneously. Very addictive!
Thanks again for Yalls help!
voice control software ?
Voice controls sound intriguing… What software do you use? How accurate is it?
However, I don’t think it would go over well in our current cube/open office…
Seems to be very accurate especially with two syllable or two word commands like " top view" instead of just “top”. Feedback from the command bar confirms correct command.
I guess any voice recognition sw would work. VAC tries to associate anything it hears with a command so keeping your mouth shut is a very hard habit to break. No music, no phone calls, no conversations, even when my dog barks it tries to do something usually Delete or Ctrl Z : ). Of course they have a voice command to “disable mic”
Once you get used to it its a blast and hard to go back…
I’m currently working on a foot pedal to mute audio while un-muting the mic when pressed so I can listen to music as i draw. Not sure if I will like it though-lots of toe tapping may slow things down…
looking forward to the day when we can use ‘thought control’ to bring up commands
We can export “Aliases”, what about keyboard Command Macros? I’m moving over to a new computer and would prefer not to have to re-type all my Command Macros?
The OptionsExport
command will also export keyboard shortcuts.
Thank You! You saved me a lot of typing.
Is there a way to toggle on and off the all encompassing command Osnap?
check the osnap toolbar you can have some of the osnap checked and then disabled. later if you hold ALT you can enable those osnap checked.
Thank you!
