Hide viewport tabs

I prefer a minimal UI, and would like to remove the viewport tabs shown in the picture below. Is this possible?

I guess it is not possible for now, but could this be added as an option?

i never ever ever used this tab, its basically taking space away for nothing. i really would also love useless clutter like this to be optional. and if one makes it optional then make the buttons be transparent, i mean let the text float in the viewport that it distracts less.

One can turn the tabs off in Windows Rhino, so I assume that it will be fixed sometime on the Mac side. I never use them except in certain files with lots of layouts, as there is a tab for each layout.
