Help! Trying to replicate this scale like design along piping

Good day all,

I am a current architecture student and our final model requires the use of an “artifact” that revolves itself around our model. I am having issues understanding how to replicate this scale like design along the pipe in my model as I have not used grasshopper before, and the only sensible guide I have watched is in Chinese with english subtitles but I do not understand their steps through the blocks shown as I am not proficient enough.

Attached is the video with time stamp to what I am trying to replicate as well as a picture of my current rhino model.

Kind regards,

Chengjie Situ

I feel like instead of trying to jump in the deep end with grasshopper you’re better off making the effect a different way - either photoshop or by using bump and texture maps

This will be 3d printed for a physical model, I’m not fond of texture maps as I haven’t used them as much but do you think it will leave a lasting groove into the print?

I feel like this would be more relevant if you knew how to use grasshopper - but since you know neither, it will take you less time to learn texturing than grasshopper

Read this:

Download some scale textures and play around with this tab:

It exports alright and slices well enough in cura

Thank you so much this will probably save me the time and effort

It seems like morphing. From one base surface to all the targets surfaces. Isn’t that possible only with Rhino?
