Help is gone after installing latest SR5.5

Continuing the discussion from Line 1532 gbAIRSSL error on startup:

After installing the latest automatic update - Version 5 SR5 (5.5.30912.16275, 12-09-13) -, when I hit F1 or Help topics from the help menu, all I get is a blank page opening in Firefox… :confounded:

Working fine here - with Chrome.

Yes, the point is that it should open a separate window with the local helpfile. It was working fine in the previous version. AFAICT, this is trying to load the file from the internet.

In French it is working, but it is definitely the file from the internet that loads:
http://docs.mcneel.com/rhino/5/help/fr-fr/index.htm

In English,
http://docs.mcneel.com/rhino/5/help/en-us/index.htm
does not load in either IE or FF. It does load with Chrome. The Rhino Wiki Help link does the same.

But my main question is: WHY doesn’t it load the local help file ??!!

–Mitch

OK, Rhino hung when I tried to close it and I had to kill it, after restarting the Help did come up in English in FF - it’s still the web help and not the local file though… IE10 still does not work for the web help… Windows 8.

–Mitch

That’s weird because I was having that exact issue until I installed the latest download. It fixed the issue.

I want to know that, too. Any ideas @brian?

Is it the WebHelp or the local .chm file that Rhino is using?

Mitch,

Do you have anything in the %LOCALAPPDATA%\McNeel\Rhinoceros\5.0\Localization folders? There should be “en-us” and “fr-fr” folders with Help\RhinoHelp.chm in each.

Do you have a %LOCALAPPDATA%\McNeel\Rhinoceros\5.0\Localization\HelpMedia folder?

Nope. No “Localization” folder there at all. Then 5.0 folder is empty.

Installing SR6 RC seems to have reinstalled the help files - at least the English ones… French and German ones are still gone…
