Gumball Scale square missing for height dimension

Hello All.

New to Rhino.

I use the gumball all the time to move things in X,Y,X, and rotate in X,Y,Z however… so often I do not get the little square boxes to appear to let me scale in X,Y and Z. I can only scale in 1 dimension… Am I missing something?

In the attached image you can see I can only scale in two dimension (Really just 1 because my surface is flat). I can only scale in width. I cannot scale in height…

If your object is planar you won’t get the third scale grip, since something of height 0 scaled by say factor of two is 0 * 2 = 0.

In your image you have a green and red scale grip, so you can scale in two dimensions.

Yeah, but in the image the red scale grip is present, which is the one in the plane of the curve (note the presence of the cut tool) and the blue scale box is absent, which looks wrong to me.

Correct. Make sense.

But the squares are oriented in the wrong direction. My object definitely has height and width. It’s a little hard to see in the image. It’s flat in depth which is what my gumball is giving me a scale dimension for.

Link to Video. Showing a different curve but same issue.

Ah, I was looking that the curve was on the XY plane.
