Gumball Inconsistent Shift Key Interaction

Hi all,

I’ve tried to find topics about this but I wasn’t sure if there was one, so I will detail the issue below.

Basically, let’s say you move an object by 10 project units, clicking the arrows on the gumball accomplishes this, but let’s say you wanted to move it back without having to change the number to -10, you can hold shift to do this. The issue I have been seeing, is that this behaviour does not work for rotation using the gumball.

Let’s say you rotated your object 45 degrees, holding shift does not rotate it -45 degrees, it rotates it 45 degrees even when holding shift, which does not seem to be aligned with the other behaviours of the gumball. You will have to type -45 into the units box to rotate it back, when it seems to me that holding the shift key should allow it to be rotated back.

Repro: New document > make any shape that is easy to track its rotation > gumball on (CPlane) > click the curved lines of the gumball that rotate the object, enter any number, for example, 45 > repeat the rotation, this time holding shift. You will see that the object is now rotated 90 degrees instead of 0.

Please let me know if I am missing something here or if this is a known or intended behaviour.

Thanks again

Hi Sub -

That feature request was implemented in Rhino 9. You can try the Beta to see if that works for you.
RH-88848 Gumball: When typing angle on a rotation handle, pressing Shift+RMB/Enter/Space/Tab rotates object in opposite direction

Thanks Wim, I can confirm it works in 9 beta.
