Gumball function request

Learning (to love) the software.

What the Gumball is really missing in my opinion, is the option to type in a value after you start moving an object. What if I don’t know the value yet? I want to drag an object, find a value by snapping to another reference object, and then, let’s say, enter “the found value divided by 2”. Would be especially helpful when making copies (with a repeat function  )

Or am I missing something? The move command can do this, but to me it seems that one of the gumball’s purposes is to more or less make the move command obsolete.

@Aryes, if I’m hearing you correctly, I would turn on Tools > Options > Modeling Aids > Cursor ToolTips > Distance, first (so you can see the distance near the mouse). Drag the object(s) with the Gumball, taking note of the distance you want. Complete the drag, then Undo (CTRL+Z) to put the object back in its original place. Last, click on the same Gumball arrowhead and quickly let go to enable numeric input (use the ALT key if you want to make a copy before quickly clicking), then enter the distance you want with whatever math you want to use. Example 49/2 (enter).

Okay, thank you.

Unfortunately it feels like a workaround, but who knows, maybe in the future we can get more consistency.

Maybe you can try the Distribute tool. You build any number of copy randomly made between the two extrems and the distribute them equally spaced.

Or you can use the Linear array or the Curve Array.

Another option is to use the Gumball movement with Osnap Dragging, move your object to the final position and, while keep it drag, read the measure and insert the measure/2.
