Gumball feature

#1

Hi McNeel’s Staff

I usually use the gumball when I drawing.

But, in some cases, when I rotate the solid, and than I try to align the gumball to the solid, it not do this.
I don’t understand, if there are somethings that I don’t know, of gumball.

Here there is one example Gumball.3dm (78.0 KB)
I try many times to align the gumball at the object ,and I see that the button “AlignGumballToObject” do the same relocation as “AlignGumballToCplane”

thanks
Daniele

Hi Daniele,

To align gumball to your object simply press and hold Ctrl button and then use rotation, translation or scale widget.

As you can see on the picture - I use gumball rotation widget while holding down Ctrl button, the rotation affects the gumball instead of object. You can do it with all directions and transformations. Good luck!

Hi Daniele- only some objects can ‘know’ what the alignment should be- from Help:

"Align to Object

Gumball widgets align to the object direction for:

Curves

Extrusion objects

Lights

Mesh faces and edges and vertices

Planar objects and subobjects

The camera object (Camera) and NamedView camera widget

Exceptions

Free-form top-level objects

The gumball aligns with the construction plane with its origin at the object’s centroid.

Curve control points

The gumball z-direction (blue arrow) aligns with the curve normal.

The gumball x-direction (red arrow) aligns with the curve tangent.

Surface control points

The gumball z-direction (blue arrow) aligns with the surface normal.

The gumball x-direction (red arrow) aligns with the surface u-direction.

Use _RelocateGumball to align it precisely.
