Gumball - Drag-Extrude multiple surfaces to a single solid?

When I use the gumball to drag/extrude (little circle) multiple surfaces I get multiple solids even if the surfaces are joined.

Is there a setting I can change to get a single solid? I’m currently using a boolean to get them together.

This is issue is known and on the list as RH-71151 (not visible to public)
