I want an avatar specific to this forum, not one that follows me around the web. Is this possible?
Why use Gravatar, and why the daisy-chain of sign-ups through Wordpress?

not yet, but totally on our roadmap, as a workaround you can set up a gravatar for

me+topsecret@gmail.com the routing magic allows you to hide it.
