Grasshopper2 expires in 4 days

Was just coming here to report that I upgraded to Rhino 8 yesterday, and was unable to find GH2. This fixes it, thanks!

Is this new version out yet ? Because I can’t seem to make grasshopper 2 work on Rhino 8 for Mac.
As the latest Grasshopper 2 WIP Expired already and I can’t find the new version.

Hi -

If you are referring to Grasshopper 2, yes, that new version is out but it depends on an updated Rhino 8. This means that older Rhino 8 versions will not see this new version of Grasshopper 2.
It’s possible that the current SR 1 release candidate suffices; if not, you’ll have to wait for a new release candidate.

K I updated Rhino, now what

That SR1 came out quick

I have no idea what you have tried… but…

SR1 is not out yet. It’s currently available as a release candidate. Release candidates always become available as soon as a SR is released.

When do release candidates generally make it to the automatic Rhino updater?

If I download release candidate from the link you provided, the correct procedure is to just run it despite having Rhino 8 already installed? Does it automatically uninstall the previous version and install the new one?

Generally, immediately.
In this case, specifically, if (1) you are on Windows, and (2) you are running 8.1.23311 from last week, it looks like you won’t see the release candidate from this week.
If (1) you are on macOS, and (2) you are on 8.0, you won’t see any release candidates and will have to manually install that from the link I provided.

Yes. You don’t need to do anything else.

I mean it says SR1, so…

This helps me understanding too though, and I think I remember coming across this knowledge once before:

So, I’ll probably continue learning GH1 for now, and maybe take a few looks at GH2 once in a while

That’s the smart thing to do, also I think with Rhino Compute / Hops, theroatically It is possible to encapsulate your G1 definition into a hops component and run it from within G2 so you can have them in tandem.

Hi David, where can we download G2-Alpha? I installed G2 2.0.8671-wip.20641 on Rhino 8 (8.0.23304.9001, 2023-10-31)). But when I use G2 command to load Grasshopper 2, it tells me that G2 has expired and G2 is going to expire every 45 days and looks like I cannot use it on RH8 now? Any way we can test on it? changing the date of the system?

You have to have at least Rhino 8.1 (Service Release 1) installed.

Hi, I installed Rhino 8 SR1, installed Grasshopper2 from the package manager, and still get the 45 days pop up window…

Hi Paul -

Can you please post the outcome of the Rhino SystemInfo command as well as a screenshot of the Grasshopper 2 “About” image?
-wim

After running the G2 command, I only get this from Grasshopper 2:

Thanks,
Which version of Grasshopper2 do you see in the Package Manager when you search for “grasshopper2” in the “Online” tab?
-wim

Interesting, that’s the same version as the one that I’m running:

Have you tried rebooting your machine?
-wim

As a side-note, from now on GH2 will no longer expire.

The latest version was build against RhinoCommon version 8.0.23304.9001, which is available on NuGet and therefore I assumed it was part of a public Service Release or Service Release Candidate.

I was rather hoping that that meant that anyone with any version newer than the very first Rhino 8 SR0 would be able to load it via the PackageManager. Am I correct about that @will?

Do note that there are some changes to the GH1 ↔ GH2 interop code which only made it into Rhino 8.2, so trying to run GH1 components in GH2 or indeed upgrading *.gh or *.ghx files won’t work until you get a Rhino 8.2 release.

Alright, I turned it off and on again, and it worked
Thanks!

Yep, cosmic particles cause ‘bit flips’ more often than we realize, which is why this is pretty much default tech diagnostic 101.
