Grasshopper macOS Keyboard Shortcuts

In the latest RhinoWIP, we have fixed a bug that caused some of the default Grasshopper keyboard shortcuts to override some critical macOS keyboard shortcuts (think Command+Q).

Most of the keyboard shortcuts remain the same, but a few have changed. Here is a list of the changes with the new shortcuts in bold on the right:

Shortcut Windows Mac (Old) Mac (New)
Preview toggle Ctrl+Q ⌘Q ⌘`
Mesh Edge display toggle Ctrl+M ⌘M ⌘4
Document cycling Ctrl+Tab did not work ⌘0
Preferences Ctrl+Shift+P ⇧⌘P ⌘,
Redo Ctrl+Y ⌘Y ⇧⌘Z
Find F3 F3 ⌘F
Recompute F5 F5 or ` ⌘R
Send to back Ctrl+B ⌘B ⇧⌘B
Bring to front Ctrl+F ⌘F ⇧⌘F
Move backwards Ctrl+Shift+B ⇧⌘B ⌥⇧⌘B
Move forwards Ctrl+Shift+F ⇧⌘F ⌥⇧⌘F
Bake selected Insert did not work ⌘B
Show Radial menu Ctrl+Space ⌘click or ⌥space ⌥space
Export Quick Image Ctrl+Shift+Q did not work ⌘I
Deselected selected component Ctrl+Click did not work ⌘click

KEY

  • Command (or Cmd) ⌘
  • Shift ⇧
  • Option (or Alt) ⌥
  • Control (or Ctrl) ⌃
  • Function or Fn

Wait! Why are these not working?

If you have already run Grasshopper in the RhinoWIP, Grasshopper remembers this. We have not (yet) overwritten the your previously saved shortcuts (just in case you’ve already modified them).

To get the new shortcuts:

  1. In Rhino, run the GrasshopperFolders command.

  2. Select the Settings option. A new Finder window opens.

  3. Find the grasshopper_menushortcuts.xml file and drag it to the Trash (or elsewhere).

  4. Quit and restart Rhino and start Grasshopper

The new keyboard shortcuts should now work.
