Rhino crashes when opening Grasshopper

Just installed Rhino 7 on the office computer, and every time I try to open Grasshopper the whole Rhino window crashes and closes. This is also happening to one co-worker. We don’t have any plug-ins in Grasshopper. Only plug-in we have in Rhino is V-ray. Newes uptade of Rhino is installed and we’re running it on good hardware. The crash happens every time on Grasshopper loading in at 93%.

Any ideas of why this is happening and how to fix it?

Hi Espen,

make sure that you have installed the newest update for V-Ray and GPU driver.

If the problem persists - you can post your machines specifications with the software version that you are currently running (Rhino and V-Ray).

Best regards,

Gregor

Hi Espen,

Please post your SystemInfo (type in the Rhino command line)

Hi, thanks for your replys. I’ve got the latest V-ray, and updated the GPU driver with no luck.

Rhino also crashes when I use the EditPhytonScript command.

Yes, here’s the system info:

Hei Espen -

Just to make sure, can you disable the V-Ray plug-in in the plug-in manager, and restart Rhino. Does it still crash? If it does, does the crash reporter pop up?
-wim

Yes, I tried, still crashes and no, the crash reporter hasn’t popped up in any of the crash instances with grasshopper/phyton.

Is it a reappearing problem that V-ray causes Rhino to crash? Should I try to uninstall it?

Hei Espen -

Not if disabling it doesn’t solve the issue.

Just to make sure, does Rhino crash when you simply reboot the machine, launch Rhino, and run EditPythonScript?
-wim

Nope, rebooting the machine doesn’t help either.

Heia -

It was more the steps that follow after that that I was interested in, but put in a reboot just to make sure. This isn’t a problem that is happening all over the place and we’ll need as many details as possible to try and find a way around this. Are you using a factory-default start-up template or is that something that has been modified? What happens when you start in safe mode and run EditPythonScript?
-wim

Hi

Thank you. I understand that. The steps after rebooting the machine stays the same. Rhino works as usual until I launch Grasshopper or run EditPythonScript. When launching Grasshopper it loads until 93% and then crashes and closes. When running the EditPythonScript it immediately crashes and closes.

The same happens when I run Rhino in safe mode. It’s factory-default start up templates I’ve been using. Rhino was quite recently installed on the computer, and I haven’t done any customizations.

Hi Espen,

This is very unusual, can you go to Add or Remove Programs and Modify your Rhino install and do a Repair?

Thanks

Hi,

No luck with that one either. Rhino still crashes when running GH.

You say it’s unusual, yet it’s happening to two users here in the office. Could it be some sort of admin setup locally from our IT department that is causing the error? And if so, any idea of what that could be?

To be clear you have no Grasshopper plugins installed or any active Rhino 3rd Party plugins?

Please repair or reinstall your microsoft redistributables and then repair again.

Is there anything about your work network/computer environment that could be relevant? anti-virus, remote access, vm?

That’s right, no Grasshopper plugins and V-ray (as the only Rhino plugin) is disabeled in the PlugInManager.

I don’t have access to repair the microsoft redistributables, so I can’t try that one. We have CylancePROTECT active and we do have remote access to the computers, but I don’t know what’s relevant in this case.

I’ve sent an e-mail to out IT department and will get back to you if they have any relevant knowledge of what could be causing the issue.

For testing purposes please try with only one monitor as well. Thanks

This sounds like it is really related to python. We’ve seen issues in the past where someone installed a separate version of IronPython on their system. Do you know if there is a copy of IronPython installed?
