Gradient hatch doesn't vector print

It’s excellent to finally be able to bake gradient hatches with grasshopper!
however I’ve found that some will not print to PDF with the Rhino PDF printer.

The attached GH script (Rhino8) will bake this

the Print dialogue displays the green gradient incorrectly as all yellow

When printed to vector PDF i cannot open the file in Acrobat

however chrome gives this

As you can see the gradient labelled G (from Yellow to Cyan) is completely missing.

Raster PDF is fine.
I do not have the Adobe PDF writer yet to test if that works any better.

It appears others have had a similar problem, so it’s possible not related to grasshopper

RH-79888 should be fixed in Rhino 8 Service Release 6 Release Candidate. Please give it a try.

Hello Dan, I’m on Version 8 SR17 (=the version my company will allow atm), and the behaviour is the following here:

Rhino viewport:

^ You can see the gradient ring does not reach the correct amount.

When printing on paper, the gradient hatch does not print at all. Interestingly, this is also represented in the print preview:

I notice the gradient hatch selection shows just its two outlines, but not the “full” surface, like it does with the non-gradient hatches. But I guess that doesn’t mean anything.

Edit: I notice that the behaviour is as expected when choosing “raster output”. This is not possible in my case however.

Hi Duncan-

Sorry for the late reply. Can you share the file we can use to reproduce this here? Even just the section of file would be fine. If we can figure out the steps to reproduce it, we can likely fix it.

I’ve had Rhino check for updates on my private licence which made it install Version 8 SR22 - (8.22.25217.12451, 2025-08-05).

I can still reproduce the problem there.

Hi Duncan -

I’m seeing things amiss in your file. Is this a file that was created earlier and now opened in 8.22? If so, can you reproduce this from scratch? I’m not able to do so on my systems here.

Hi Wim, that’s odd. The file was created with the above quoted version. So yes I can reproduce it from scratch.
