Gradient hatch pdf print problem

Hello,

I’ve got problems with gradient hatch when printing pdf (rhino PDF).

First, the hatch print preview is correct(gradient) only if the detail viewport has the world cplane and the view aligned to it. But whenever I change the cplane or rotate the view the hatch is previewed with flat grey instead.

Second, in both cases I cannot open the pdf. It says that there is a problem processing the page.

What can I do about it?

Thanks in advance,

Quentin

Hi Quentin -
Please post a simple 3dm file that shows this behavior. Also, please run the Rhino SystemInfo command and copy-paste the result here.

Hi Wim,
Sorry for the late reply.
Gradient print problem.3dm (7.3 MB)

Here is a file with several gradient hatchs that are problematic to print.
First case shows that it is printed fine if it is not in a block. (Layout 1) This happens with “Rhino PDF” printer, while both are printed correctly with adobe PDF (except that transparency is not working with the latter)
Second case, some gradient are getting printed fine and others are flat instead. (layout 2-3)
I hope there’s a solution.
thanks
Quentin

I was running into a similar issue. More on the PDF not reading side of the problem. I found that if you switch from Rhino PDF to the Adobe PDF in the print menu there is more success at getting the hatch gradients to open in other software and print.

Not ideal but it has been working so far.

Hi -

Dharman pointed to this thread that has remained unanswered.

A lot of water under the bridge since then, so, FWIW…
I tested this on a current inhouse Rhino 8 version and wasn’t able to reproduce the issue there.

Dharman’s file is an example of a PDF that can’t be opened after export. This is part of what is on the list as RH-79888 Print: Printing gradient hatch issue
If you have other cases where such PDF is being created by Rhino PDF, please post the 3dm file.
