Like maybe 3D model a couch.
Refined a few techniques I had been using while modeling this one. Something like this for visuals is better done in some of the other apps out there - getting the fabric folds takes forever and still doesn’t look quite right. In this case I just want a couch in my library that doesn’t look terrible and that is mine. For a real Archviz scene I would absolutely be hitting up an asset library. This however got me TONS of much needed practice.
I didn’t want to spend much time on this but I completely botched the couch cushions. It’s not that they look bad. But rather that they look like they were made for a different sofa lol.
I really liked the nice square look from the front. Maybe I can re-use them and create a new base.
So I fixed everything but then the middle cushion didn’t match (too square, my new end cushions are more ‘balloony’):
So finally fixed that and adjusted the base (sure there’s an actual name for that part):
I’m also trying to get the cushions looking a little better both the actual modeling and how to place them. I realize that if I trim them with the actual couch geometry I can get them pushed more tightly in and get rid of that floating effect.
And… if I’m going to go through all this trouble why not swap materials. All these came from the standard material library. Having issues with seams that are fixable but take quite a bit of time. And also had an issue in Ray Traced mode the flower pattern just disappears. Some day I’ll haul this into the render engine and see what it looks like.
