Flow Along Surface issues

I’m trying to put this pattern on a surface I created using sweep 1. But as you can see i’m having trouble. I just started self-learning Rhino this week and can’t seem, to get it working. The end goal is to have the pattern on the surface and then have it etched(i’m not even sure how to do that)

the base surface have to be under the pattern you want to flow. not kilometers away from it.
The flow command takes the relative position of the pattern to the base surface, that distance and aligment goes to the target surface.
