Flat shading in iRhino and poly count limit

Was trying to open a heavy mesh [36mil] in iRhino on a 12.9’ iPad Pro 2022 [M2]
it crashed on loading.
I then managed to open a 7mil [a 20% decimated/reduced mesh of the same model]
it managed … [very very slow response, ]
I’m assuming it’s the amount of RAM the iPad has which is the limit here…? Does iRhino uses the same method as Rhino for displaying meshes? [rhino uses like 4 times more RAM for this mesh then the app it originated from… [Zbrush]. is there no way to use a lighter method for iRhino?
What about displaying the amount of memory iRhino uses [like Rhino try to do in the status bar]

The 2nd thing is about flat shading: Meshes looks bad [and misleading] in smooth shade !
can we please add a flat shade option in the display tab? [I also believe it should be the default for mesh objects]
Please Flat shading is necessary for mesh, in my case, i can’t use iRhino at all without it.

To emphasise my point; the screenshot bellow is of a diamond all smudged up in smooth shade… How can i use iRhino to show my work to customers …?
[ BTY the file was saved in Rhino with flat shade on]

thanks a lot

You’re right, the amount of RAM your device has is the main factor here. We’re already using the maximum iOS allows us to use.

iRhino uses the same code Rhino for Mac uses to display meshes. Maybe @stevebaer has ideas how to speed this up.

Are you trying to determine when the app is about to crash? Keep in mind that the available memory on your device fluctuates based on background processes and other apps you have running.

Have you tried FlatShade command?

Thanks Morteza

No… I looked for it in the display tab only, didn’t know it exist as a Command .
Trying now, but it doesn’t seems to work here.

or i’m not grasping the correct way to use it in iRhino…?

Are you sure you’re toggling it on?

Probably a good idea to add it to the display options. RV-1206

i did not… i pressed enter instead
didn’t think i need to go to options for a toggle.

thanks a lot, it works now.
