Flat Shading on mac seems to be again broken

this one is a large mesh… but it display fine in smooth shading.

thanks a lot

For simple low poly mesh, Flat shading works fine…

But this need to work for hi poly too… IMHO mesh objects should display in Rhino in flat shade by default, regardless of the option in the display panel ! after all, smooth shade is there so Nurbs objects could use a low setting for their render mesh…
[and a i guess for GH simulations

Flat shade does work in shaded mode… But not in render/Raytrace/Bella modes!

So Rhino can not be used for rendering. here’s what i get trying to render a simple diamond in mesh form. [and yes, converting the mesh gemstones to Nurbs, is easy… but not the rest of the hi poly mesh]

Use Unweld at 0 to make meshes “always” flat shade.

Thanks a lot @Helvetosaur … I don’t understand how…? but this certainly works!
It does take a few minutes to unweld a large poly count mesh.

  • i now remeber you have suggested it in the past… i see have added the button for UnWeld to my UI back then [and forgot what it was for]

Would love to know what unweld angle is?.. How come an object remains closed when it has been unwelded? and does unwelding [the lack of] has something to do with Rhino not displaying the mesh as it is on import ?[which is what i assume Rhino does by default ] Was thinking i could add unweld 0 to the OBJ import Macro… upon checking i see the unweld option is only for export.

To the Devs, may I ask, Why don’t you make it so Mesh is flat [shown as it really is] by default, with the Smoothing modifier applied by users when needed ?
