So I’ve just upgraded from NXT to NXT 5… WHERE HAVE ALL THE MATERIALS GONE?!
The biggest reason I’ve stuck with Flamingo rather than digging into the more powerful, but also considerably more complicated options is that Flamingo has always offered such a comprehensive selection of materials. The latest version has a pitiful handful of materials- to the point it’s neigh on useless.
If I’m going to have to spend the time to manually setup each material myself I may as well ditch Flamingo altogether. Also as I have several upgraded modules to Rhino (having been a user for over a decade) the install process is a nightmare. I’ve just moved machines and after installing the base version, then service releases I must have had to enter my various CD keys 20 times in order to install Rhino 5 (upgraded from 4), Flamingo NXT 5 (upgraded from NXT, upgraded from FLamingo 2) and Bongo. Seriously ncneel sort out your upgrade process- you should take the upgrade information ONCE and update your validation server YOUR END.
You just download the latest SR of RH5 and install that one without worrying about RH4 or any other things. You will be asked for the license key to the version that you upgraded from but you don’t have to install previous versions.
Hi, I’m having the same issue as the original poster, but there doesn’t seem to be a Flamingo Materials library there.
When I go to add material in nxt5, it only comes up with very basic options, no real selection of ‘ready-to-use’ materials to run with or amend as with previous versions of Flamingo.
Is this in the Materials panel or the Libraries panel? ‘Flamingo Materials’ should be a shortcut in the Libraries panel which can be shown via the Panels drop down menu or the right click menu over any other panels name.
Okay, are you using Rhino 5 SR13… this was the last service release of v5 and was specifically for the Flamingo nXt 5.0 release. I’m wondering if that’s the missing bit. http://www.rhino3d.com/download/rhino/5.0/sr
But note that there were two releases of SR13. The first one triggered an update automatically but the second one doesn’t. And FL needs the second one. So what’s the date on your SR13?
Version 5 SR13 64-bit
(5.13.60523.20140, 23/05/2016)
I did try to run updates right away when I ran into the problems, but it’s giving me ‘you have the newest version’. Is there a newer update and if yes how do I run it if Rhino thinks it’s already up to date?
thanks,
Chris
