Exporting to either .pdf or .svg with layer support in Rhino 7 for Mac

Hi,

I am having a very hard time finding a workflow that works for me in Rhino 7 - Mac for exporting my drawings so that they can be opened in Inkscape without having to manually sort through all of the objects and send them to layers. Ideally, I would like to do this by exporting from Rhino 7 to svg with all of the layers I made in Rhino preserved. However, I have not been able to successfully export anything to svg. The file that is created is always only a few bytes large and only contains a header it seems (see attached file).

Since svg is not working for me, I have been exporting to pdf; however, none of my layers are preserved. It is prohibitively slow for me to manually sort and designate to layers in Inkscape. This is especially true when I want to go back into Rhino and make some tweaks and come back to Inkscape. I have to restart the process from scratch every time, which makes any type of iterative design between Rhino and Inkscape unfeasible for me.

I have searched around the forums for this issue, but I haven’t been able to find a clear answer on what is going on. I would really appreciate any help with this or suggestions on workflows for doing this.

Apologies for the very late reply…

In order to debug such an issue, we’d need to see the 3dm file that was exported to this (empty) svg. If we can figure out what is going on, perhaps the default svg export could work to go to Inkspace.

According to this bug-track item:

RH-71860 File IO: SVG Export - Add option to not group by layer

it is sometimes necessary to avoid exporting Layer → Groups when exporting to SVG. I don’t know what Inkscape prefers in this case.
