Export to Rhino 5

Hello,

I create a lot of templates for other people to use as a starting point for a class. I have Rhino 5 and 6, but most of the users only have Rhino 5 (because it’s on the school computers). The templates usually have named layers, however, they sometimes do not have any objects when when I send them out. This means that in Rhino for Mac, where exporting selected objects is the only means of saving as a R5, none of the empty layers export, whereas in Rhino 6 for the PC, I can simply save as to Rhino 5.

Would it be possible to get a “save as Rhino 5” option?

Thanks!

You should be able to use Export.

It doesn’t seem to be exporting the empty layers, the exception being an empty layer that is set as my current layer.

Hi @wosewick, we have a request on our list to be able to use SaveAs to save in a different file format - RH-48888. I have added a note that this should also cover previous 3dm file formats.

For the time being, I would suggest making the template file in the Rhino 5 format so that they can be used on both versions.
