Exploring Revit Views in Rhino

This post is going to illustrate a new interaction between Revit & Rhino views as well as highlight some of the existing features.

What’s new:

  • Rhino 8 can now cast a Revit View directly to a Model View/View.

This can be used to create a new corresponding floating Viewport in Rhino.

  • Baking a Revit Picture Element to a Rhino surface and material.

Additional View Features:

  • While using Cntl or Cntl + Shift while creating a new Rhino viewport will synchronize the Camera and Workplane / Zoom.

  • Baking a Scope Box will create a grouped set of planes that correspond to the Revit Scope

  • Use Custom Preview for a live preview of the View

  • Open & Close Revit Views

I have yet to look into this, but does this new feature allow me to synchronise the camera between a Rhino and Revit 3d view?
From Revit 2023-2025 I’m having issues with my 3d mouse, which apparently is a problem on Autodesk’s side, so if I could synchronise the cameras I’d have a workaround for something Autodesk probably isn’t gonna fix anytime soon (apart from being actually useful and reducing navigation inputs to look at the same thing across both programs).

I was playing around with the view components in early September and I was able to push the Rhino view back to Revit which I thought was great, but what I found myself trying to figure out was how do I push a walkthrough back to Revit. There was an option to create a walkthrough view but no additional tools to set a path any of the options a walkthrough might have.

Potentially not a high priority to include but it was something I was looking at doing.

I’m not sure yet how casting a Revit View directly to a Model View will help what I do, but I’m sure a reason will pop up where I or someone else finds a good use for it.

Thanks for adding the new functionality @Japhy and team.
