Error writing blockEdit document data

I’m not trying to edit a block but when I opened my file the block edit command comes up. If I click apply or x out of it it’ll delete everything in my layouts. If I keep it open I’m able to save and keep editing my file but the error “error writing blockedit document data” keeps happening. And it’s bringing up more block edit windows that I’m trying to ignore. I’m afraid of loosing all of this work. Please help.

Hi Chris, Can you post your file? If it needs to be private you can upload to mcneel here…

Lets close all Rhino instances. Open a new instance and go to File>Preferences>Plugins and disable the BlockEdit plugin. Close Rhino. Open the problem file. Then re-enable the blockedit plugin.

WOW! That’s strange. But it worked. Thank you!!

This solution also works for Rhino8

This solution is no longer valid. After I re-enable _blockedit and close my file I get the same issue with Block Editor opening at the time I open my file. Adding to the strange behavior, I can’t edit my blocks with this Block Editor window.. Then when I try and close that block editor window everything disappears. Can we get an update on this bug? It still happens often enough to be concerning. Usually it happens because I have lost the block edit window from dragging to a different screen (it disappears and I can’t recover it), or it happens for another reason I haven’t yet determined.

Hi Chris,

Do you have a file in this state we can look at?

SystemInfo would be helpful as well, thanks.

Yes I do
Where can I send this file? I’m not able to post it here on the forum.

You can upload privately here, please put a link to the thread in the comments.

I sent the file a few days ago. Any word on this?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the File, i can repeat.

The old workaround isn’t working. Deleting all instances of TitleBlock-04 does. One way to not have to place a new block on all 65 instances would be to nest a new block in 04, then explode all instances.

Thanks for reporting RH-87394

Thank you Japhy. Do you have any simple solutions for restoring the block popup when it disappears?

Hi Japhy. I have another instance of the bug that deletes everything in the file when working with blocks. The file is from my colleague who was working with block M4. He had gone in and out of the block many times like normal. The last time he hit apply to the block everything disappeared. Hope this sheds more light on the issue. I uploaded the file to the link you provided earlier.

Thanks, we’ll take a look.
