Error Opening Grasshopper

I am now getting an error when I start up Grasshopper. It tells me:

Priority: CategoryIcon
{
  Method not found: 'Serilog.LoggerConfiguration Serilog.FileLoggerConfigurationExtensions.File(Serilog.Configuration.LoggerSinkConfiguration, System.String, Serilog.Events.LogEventLevel, System.String, System.IFormatProvider, System.Nullable`1<Int64>, Serilog.Core.LoggingLevelSwitch, Boolean, Boolean, System.Nullable`1<System.TimeSpan>, Serilog.RollingInterval, Boolean, System.Nullable`1<Int32>, System.Text.Encoding, Serilog.Sinks.File.FileLifecycleHooks, System.Nullable`1<System.TimeSpan>)'.

Hi Ed,

Can you try again but start Rhino 8 in Safe Mode? or troubleshoot by removing these 3rd party plugins?

Rhino plugins that do not ship with Rhino
C:\ProgramData\McNeel\Rhinoceros\packages\8.0\Pollination\1.54.16\Pollination.RH.Loader.rhp “Pollination.RH.Loader” 1.54.16.0
C:\ProgramData\McNeel\Rhinoceros\packages\8.0\LadybugTools\1.38.257\Ladybug.RH.Loader.rhp “Ladybug.RH.Loader” 1.38.257.0

Hi @Japhy, sure thing:

When i start in ‘Safe Mode’, I first see:

but Rhino does boot up. Then When I run ‘Grasshopper’ it says:

and then I still get the same error:

But, everything does appear to work as normal in Grasshopper once I close that error.

btw: note that I did just update Rhino, so now my environment is:

  • Rhino v-8 SR18 (8.18.25070.14001, 2025-03-11)
  • Windows 11 Home v-21H2 | 22000.2538

That is expected, you will prompted to load any plugin (grasshopper is a plugin), did you say no to the 3rd party plugins or remove them?

Also note that running windows on parallels is not a supported configuration. Rhino - System Requirements

did you say no to the 3rd party plugins or remove them?

oh - I just started in ‘Safe Mode’ ? I thought that would then not load any 3rd part items? I clicked ‘Yes’ load C:\Program Files\Rhino 8\Plug-ins\Grasshopper\GrasshopperPlugin.rhp?

Also note that running windows on parallels is not a supported configuration. Rhino - System Requirements

yeah, I hear ya. FWIW, Everything was working awesome until SR17 and 18 though.

Lets try a repair install. Go to Add & Remove Programs> Rhino 8> Modify>Repair

@Japhy nice! that did the trick

I did a full Ladybug/Pollination removal, and ran the ‘Repair’ as you suggested, and now no more warning message when I open Grasshopper.

Then I reinstalled Ladybug via the Pollination installer, and now get the same warning message again. So must be an LB issue. I’ll post over there to followup.

thanks!!
