Elliptic vase

Hi,

I’m trying to make this model (a challenge!) It’s an ellipse on two round bases…
I’ve tried two attempts without success :frowning:

  1. An ellipse like the model, but I can’t get a loft between the tube and the curve…
  2. Making ellipses by inclined them… but the loft is poor…

Any ideas?
The concept … the good approach ?

Thanks in advance…

this is a simple rule of three exercise-

in subd it would look like this-

in nurbs, you do straight lofts between the sections, then change degree to be deg 3/3

grab the points in the center and scale with gumball.

Looks more like a spiral than lofted ellipses?

Maybe AI as the designer (Florian Mack) goes by the username “@the.a.i.designer”?

What is “a simple rule of three”?

Hi Josep,

yes…it’s the source of this model
for me, it’s a spiral, i did it with ellipses, but it’s not beautiful…
tks

Hey Arthur,
an approach could look like this:

  1. Loft
  2. Twist
  3. Edit Cage

rule of three= 3 subd edges or 3 cv points to make a transition.

Ah yes, thanks. Watched only a few seconds (~30) of the video before I knew what you are talking about. This thread depends on the same concept:

P.S. Same idea here, though the helmet ultimately failed:

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback.
I’ll study the concepts of the ring and apply them to the vase…
I’ll keep you posted…it’s a challenge

Hi everybody…

Some evolutions…, the spiral seems to be good…
Junction between pipe and spiral is not “progressive”…but it’s possible…

but, the problem is the loft…how to do that…?

Tks per advance.
A.

Two attempts but always with the problem of the Loft closing.

Closing the gap is problematic because of the spiral…

Please try to use better file names.

ouahhhhhh

amazing…

Hi leopold, happy to write you.

A another approach…i’m going to study that…
The first model is very beautiful…how to close it…loft for ever…

Thanks agin

This uses loft option “Loose” and still might be not what you want?

P.S. The rest of this code looks more complex than needed? This slider must have a minimum value of four and be only even numbers (‘E’):

hi Joseph,

I did it but, … actually, that’s not it… the model doesn’t show the termination… I’m thinking of a nice junction between the spiral and the pipe… not easy.

Yeah. You’re welcome. This is version ‘a’ with that ‘Count’ slider set to 200:

I tried a few other things but…

perhaps, one idea would be to make a spiral across the full height of the pipe… and put a graph mapper component (like Bezier) on both ends to flatten the spiral with the tube… like in the picture…i don’t know…& analyze Leopold 's working

nice shape!
i´d love to loft the other direction… but keep getting invalid surfaces after the surface split…
so it´s work in progress…

will look into that tomorrow..

For all the work I did (mostly in yellow group) to fade the spiral shape at both ends, I am disappointed in the result. Rebuild curve and “Loose” loft were used. Playing with parameters helps, to a point…

In the process, I found and fixed many data tree “mishandlings”. :frowning: I didn’t look inside three clusters on the left.

P.S. ‘Domain’ slider in blue group increased to 10:

You’re all awesome!
Masters :)… “PWK Cylindrical Point and Nurbs Curve”—I’m not familiar with these components…

I’m a bit of a beginner, perhaps an idea would be to add a larger thickness and cut a larger cross-section (after the upper and lower circles)?
