Dürer's Rhinoceros

I note that when opening WIP, that the splash screen for “ TEMPLATES New, Recent, Open…, ” and in the bottom left corner of that opening screen is Albrecht Dürer’s Rhinoceros. A woodcut print from the year 1515.

I thought and hoped that Rhino 3D was nurturing a new logo design…

But it seems that a restaurant in Nuremberg is currently using this image and the date in its name: “1515 Rhinocervs”

Here is the image by Albrecht Dürer:

All of Durer’s wood prints are great, Melencholia I is a personal favorite of mine. An abstract version of Durer’s Rhinoceros would be a great plugin icon or command button, but who knows what for.

It harkens back to when Rhino was first beta tested before 1.0 was released. McNeel has always used this image as a logo for their wips and betas. Michael Gibson I think had the poster on his wall when McNeel created rhino and thus this image became a kind of logo for beta testing. I forgot the exact story but that’s the gist of it.

Don’t worry if you don’t like it, it’s just for the wips and betas. I for one like it better than the polished logo designs they subsequently came out with.

I like it. It has some unnecessary features like the spike on the back, but the filleting just works. Let us hope it is a true metaphor for the product. :innocent:

This brings back memories! It certainly framed Rhino when it was a beta in a cool way.
