"Document User Text" tab doesn't open

Did I say latest WIP . My bad.
I work in 6

Thanks for trying to disable the Nahimic DLL, it was worth a shot.

Have you tried the V7 WIP and if so have you seen this blank panel bug? If you haven’t tried the V7 WIP, would you be willing to try?

The only other thing I can think of to try would be to set up a remote debugging session on one of your computers exhibiting the bug. This would require us to have some time to run Rhino on your computer. Is this something you would be able to or willing to try?

If this doesn’t happen in the V7 version, WHY DON’T YOU JUST COPY-PASTE THE CODE FOR THE PROPERTIES PANEL FROM 7 TO 6 ALREADY AND GET US OUT OF MISERY !!!

I’ve got some work involving dots right now, and this is driving me nuts !!!

OK, I’m trying V7.
The dot properties flickering is not present, and I haven’t had a blank interface yet, but the objects disappear randomly !!!
Now I have to choose what is more annoying : flickering tabs or vanishing model…

Can’t you guys fix stuff without breaking something else ?
Rhino development looks like going back and forth on silly old issues without ever getting the basics right…

Hmm, that little blue dot… Just out of curiosity, does the same thing happen if you disconnect the space navigator? Wondering if it might be a problem with their driver.

Hi Mitch, it happens also if I move the view around with the mouse, but with the 3D mouse connected.
If I disconnect the 3D mouse, it seems like it doesn’t happen.
So really ? We’re back to the times of figuring out how to deal with 3D mice in Rhino ?

OK, I’m done with the V7 WIP, this is just wasting my time.
I’ll wait until the devs fix the stuff that used to work and that they broke for some reason.

I think the problem is that McNeel doesn’t make the 3D connection driver… So no actual control over its functionality…

It’s been working fine for over 10 years for pete’s sake !!!

V7 != V6… maybe the driver needs to be updated for V7… I have no idea really.

@osuire guess what: I just connected my space mouse (haven’t used it for quite some time), no driver installed yet and the first I tried is adding a dot (V6) and I got a blank panel…but my space mouse is a discontinued product it seems, so cannot further test it in Rhino

Hmmm… It’s true that having a 3D mouse is a common factor amongst the people in our team.
So if I summarize, the 3D mouse would make some panels go white in V6, and make geometry disappear in V7.
I wonder what they’ll do in V8 …maybe make vegetable juice ooze out from the icons…

I wish I could further test this out for you, but unfortunately software for my space mouse hardware has been discontinued in 2016. Can you still install the latest drivers from 3dconnexion?

In any case, if it appears that the space mouse is the source of all the things that go wrong on your and your colleagues systems you should definitely address the issues to 3dconnexion.

Oh, I see where this is going… Finger pointing both ways…

Could be, but if you test without your spacemouse and the dot and text issues are gone, and as long as McNeel can’t repeat the issue what other option is there left?

I can’t. Modeling without a spacemouse makes me feel like I’m missing my arms and I’m trying to navigate with a vintage atari joystick in a nostril.
Haven’t you guys seen the light ?

@Markus have you heard of either of these issues with respect to Rhino and spacemouse being used together?

  • blank panels
  • blinking display

@gijs and @osuire, please let me know what spacemouse models you are using so we can see if we can repeat the issue.

I’m using a good old “Space Navigator” from 3DConnexion, running the latest drivers.

The way the problem (blank windows) arises is really vicious, as it doesn’t occur at first when a file is just opened.
It happens “after some time”.

Now before I go pestering the folks at 3Dconnexion, I’d just like to remind that I’ve worked over 7 years in Rhino V5 with my 3D mice without these types of silly issues.

@stevebaer I plugged in an old spaceExplorer and without installing any software for it, I opened Rhino, made a text dot and tried to repeat the issue. Within the first couple of tries to select and deselect I got a blank panel. Unfortunately after that I couldn’t make it fail anymore. Since this spacemouse is discontinued and last driver for it is from 2016 I cannot install it anymore since Rhino requests a newer driver and the newer drivers won’t work with my space mouse.

@pascal do you have one of these models?

@stevebaer I just plugged in my space Explorer again, after uninstalling the drivers and now it works well in Rhino without the need to install any downloaded drivers. Again tried to repeat the blank panel and managed to make it happen only once:
